One more week to go! I feel like this semester has flown by, but I guess that’s what happens during summer classes. I’m actually kind of sad we’re reaching the end; I feel like I’ve learned quite a bit these past couple weeks and done a lot of new things that I have never tried before. I would say this week was probably one of the less challenging for me, which is very weird because I went into it thinking it was going to be the hardest. The reason for that is because The word “video” scared me. If there is one thing that I am awkward at, it is filming myself talk.
I actually finished all of my main assignments early on in the week because I knew this week was going to be hectic with my new job and my other summer class, so that was something nice to have things out of the way earlier. I honestly probably should have done that in the first week of this class, but we live and we learn. One thing I think that I kind of slacked on this week was the Daily Creates. I did all 4 of them, but I wish I would’ve done ones from earlier on in the week so that I didn’t feel so rushed doing those.
I think my favorite assignment I did this week was the one I was most scared about, which is the A Day In My Life video I made. I took in to consideration all the new filming techniques that I learned from the article by Roger Eberts. I tried to incorporate some panning in the scenes when I was driving and I also used different angles. I attempted to add some more effects such as music and a fast forward effect, which I honestly think I did fairly good at for my first “vlog”. The only thing I kind of struggled with was making the music not so loud, but I could not figure it out for the life of me. I also really enjoyed recording myself talking about my freshman year of college because it was an assignment that really spoke to me. That was the hardest semester of my life, but led to some of the best.
Overall, I really enjoyed this weeks topic of video because, as I said, it is something that I have never really done on my own time. I learned a lot of new things and will definitely be keeping an eye out when I watch my next movie.
